Can We Just Talk About... Keeping the House Clean While Doing All the Things?

The other day I found myself cleaning the bathroom at 10pm, muttering under my breath about limescale and life choices. Honestly, I don’t know how we’re meant to do it all. I run multiple business… and somewhere in the middle of all that, I’m also trying to grow, read more books, drink more water, and maybe — just maybe — clean the fridge.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my life and the variety in my work. But trying to balance it all with home life and a sprinkle of self-development can feel like trying to juggle flaming pineapples while standing on a bouncy castle.

There are days I feel productive and purposeful — hair styled, inbox cleared, washing folded. Then there are days when I’m eating toast over the sink and wondering if I can get away with Febreze-ing the shirt I need and forgot to wash (answer: yes, that is why my wardrobe is black and hides the sins).

Lately, I’ve started giving myself grace. I’m realising that a perfectly tidy house doesn’t mean I’m winning at life. Some weeks the kitchen sparkles. Other weeks, it's survival mode — candles on, lights low, and just enough space on the sofa to sit with a cup of tea and pretend the laundry pile isn’t winking at me.

Instead of perfection, I’m leaning into rhythm. A little reset each morning — open the windows, put on a podcast, light some incense. One task at a time. I’m learning that cleaning doesn’t have to be a big event; it can be small moments that fit around my day, not take it over.

And most importantly? I’m realising I’m not alone. So many women I know are trying to juggle the same things — growth, work, family, health, and somehow managing to remember bin day.

So if you’re reading this while wiping crumbs off your desk or trying to decide if hoovering counts as cardio — same. You’re doing amazing, even if the floor could use a mop.
